There’s a particular kind of quiet that only an acoustic bass guitar can fill. It isn’t the chest-thumping wall of a 4×10 cab, and it isn’t the polite tick of an unplugged electric either. It’s woodier and rounder, like a double bass that has learned to fit in the back of a hatchback. That’s the … Read more
The short-scale bass guitar vs full-scale question sounds petty until you hold both. Four inches separates a 30-inch neck from the 34-inch standard that Fender’s 1951 Precision Bass turned into industry habit. Yet those four inches quietly rewrite how a bass feels, sounds and sits in a room full of amps. Here’s the twist most … Read more
Here’s a scene that plays out in music shops every single day: someone with genuinely lovely, perfectly normal-sized hands picks up a standard bass, stretches for a low B, and winces. It isn’t a strength problem. It isn’t a talent problem. It’s a geometry problem, and geometry doesn’t care how badly you want to nail … Read more
There’s a very specific kind of disappointment that hits the moment you plug a four-string into a rehearsal room built for down-tuned riffage and realise you simply don’t have the note. The guitarist drops to C, the drummer’s kick is doing something percussive and unreasonable, and you’re stuck playing the wrong octave up just to … Read more
Somewhere between the fourth fret of your comfort zone and the low-end rumble you keep hearing on records you love, there’s a fifth string waiting for you. A 5-string bass guitar isn’t just a four-string with an extra bit bolted on — it’s a genuinely different instrument to live with, one that trades a bit … Read more
Nobody warns you about the moment you first plug in a bass and feel that low E rattle your ribcage. It’s genuinely addictive, and it’s exactly why so many guitarists secretly wish they’d started on four thick strings instead of six. A 4-string bass guitar for beginners is, in the simplest terms, a full-scale or … Read more
Here’s the truth nobody tells you at the till: your first beginner bass guitar will forgive almost every mistake except a bad neck. A beginner bass guitar is a smaller-bodied, typically 4-string electric bass built with lower prices, simpler electronics, and easier playability so that new players can build technique without fighting the instrument itself. … Read more
Somewhere between “I fancy learning an instrument” and “I’ve actually bought one” lies a genuinely confusing high street (or, these days, a genuinely confusing scroll through Amazon). Finding the best bass guitar for your situation isn’t about chasing the flashiest finish or the biggest brand name plastered across the headstock — it’s about matching scale … Read more
Here’s the thing nobody tells you when you start shopping for a nylon-string instrument: the moment you plug one in, the whole conversation changes. An electro classical guitar is a classical (nylon-string) guitar fitted with an onboard pickup and preamp, so you can plug into an amp or PA while still keeping that warm, rounded … Read more
Stand in any UK guitar shop long enough and you’ll hear the same hushed argument happening at the counter: electro acoustic vs acoustic guitar, which one actually deserves your money? It sounds like a simple question. It isn’t. The electro acoustic vs acoustic guitar debate trips up total beginners and gigging veterans alike, mostly because … Read more
